Good Results Make Aesthetic Foot Surgery Stronger and Stronger

One innovative field that we have opened up for reconstruction techniques has been aesthetic foot surgery. Our institute has established the principles upon which this branch of orthopedic surgery rests, about which blog followers have been able to read in previous posts. We have had excellent results, and because of this our methods have come to be valued by many patients, both from Spain and from other parts of the world. Uneven toes that are longer or shorter, misaligned toes, these are the problems that affect our patients most.

A few days ago, I received an email that described a center outside of Spain where they perform toe-shortening operations. I was surprised when I saw the information; when they did the toe-shortenings, they used a technique in which they removed the interphalangeal joint, put together both phalanx and leaving the toe rigid … some innovation! With all due respect, there are some surgeons who sell smoke and mirrors, and I’m referring to the fact that it there is nothing new about shortening longer toes by this method, leaving them rigid. Those who carry out this procedure ignore the fact that women, unlike men, wriggle their pinky toes in order to put on their shoes, so if you leave this toe rigid, they will have problems for the rest of their lives putting on shoes, especially narrow ones, and getting their foot fully into the shoe.

The techniques that we have developed preserve the proper movement of all of the joints in the foot, so that toes will never lose their function. In addition, we can change the workings of the toe tendons by way of actually improving the foot’s balance. As I say to my team, this is a most delicate job, both because of the precision required and the small area upon which we work.

Here are two cases in which patients are happy with the results of their surgery.

The first picture is of a patient whose second toes were longer than the big toes, and the rest were poorly aligned. She sent us this picture today with the first open-toe sandals that she has used in her life: “Hey!! Here’s a picture of my feet!!! I’m so happy with them!!! I’m so glad that I decided to go through with this operation!!!
Thank you so much for everything!!!

The second photo is from another patient who came from outside of Spain with a problem similar to the previous photo. We shortened six of her toes, the three middle ones on each foot. As you can see, three months after the operation, the results are highly satisfactory, both for her and for us. Within a few weeks, when the swelling goes down, the patient will be able to let her feet shine without any sort of complex.
